Fristly Hillclimbing (known also as hill climbing, speed hillclimbing or speed hill climbing) is a form of motorsport in which drivers compete (one at a time) against the clock to complete what is usually an uphill course.

Many types of vehicles are used, From registered road vehicles, curcuit racing cars,  to special build hill climb vehicles.

Tracks vary in lenght from just a few hundered meters to several kilometres. Most Australian and British Hill climbs are of the shorter type. The tracks maybe special hillclimb tracks or closed public roads.

Ok! so how do I get started?

If you have never seen a hillclimb then I would recomend that as a first step, have a chat to some of the drivers, you will find most are more than happy to offer information to assist others in getting started. Join a club that run hill climb events. You can find several on this site under Contacts in Hillclimbing.
(If you know of any clubs that are not listed plese notify us via this link)
(I am certain there is a lot of clubs to add)

As a general rule I would recomend having a drive in a road car before you start spending money on a racing car. You need to evaluate if hill climbing is for you (of course I am biased and consider everyone should be hillclimbing).
Of course if you already have a racing car.....

I've raced cars before. Why would I go hill climbing?
One thing you will discover when you start hillclimbing (even if you have been competing in other forms of motor sport for years) is that you will learn new (or at least refine) aspects of driving a car.

Things like how to start better (I enjoy watching circuit racing and watching the grid line up, If I notice a few hillclimbers on the start I will most lickley watch them pass the car in front off of the start line).

Driving on cold tyres (the first corner is going to arrive and you will have cold tyres (espcially the fronts) and cold brakes.

Because you don't have other cars about you, you will be able to conentrate more on your driving (getting "the line" through a corner, refining just were to apex a corner).

Tunning of your cars suspension, brakes, areodynamics, gearing  and engine.

The entry fees for a hillclimb event are usually more "pocket friendly" than some other forms of motor sport (not that moeny is an issue. right?).
